EUROPE 02-Germany-Munich (14/08/02)

During our 2002 trip to Europe, we planned to visit St Gallen/Appenzell in Switzerland after Salzburg. However, there is no direct train from Salzburg to St Gallen/Appenzell as between them stands the Alps. So we have to catch a connecting train at Munich, giving us some bonus sightseeing. As we only had a few hours, we only took a stroll from the train station to the city center, Marienplatz.

Near Marienplatz is the St Peter's Church. With a small fee, one can climb the church tower. This photo taken on the tower towards the east. In the left is Altes Rathaus (old town hall).

The Rathaus-Glockenspiel consists of 43 bells and 32 life-sized figures. Every day at 11 a.m. (as well as 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. in summer) it chimes and re-enacts two stories from the 16th century. The show lasts about 15 minutes. We manage to catch the 5pm show.
