The Cairo Citadel is built by the Sultan Saladin between 1176 and 1183 AD to protect Cairo from the Crusaders. It is built on Muqattam hill near the center of Cairo and provides fresh breeze and grand views of the city. The Citadel now has three mosques (including the Muhammad Ali Mosque), palaces and museumns.

On the left is the Mosque of Sultan Hassan. It was built between 1356 and 1363 and an outstanding example of Islamic architecture. On the right is the Al-Rifa'i Mosque. Inside the mosque are the tombs of the royal family of Egypt.
