NEPAL 99-Pokhara 2 (08 to 09/12/99)

Here are my last few photos of the Annapurna Himalayas. Prior to this trip to Nepal, the only notable mountains I have seen is the New Zealand Southern Alps. Subsequently, I visited the Canadian Rockies, Swiss Alps, Grand Teton, China's Tibet and Yunnan. Save for Tibet and Yunnan (which are extensions of the Himalayas), I must say that none match the grandeur and massiveness of the Annapurna Mountains. In fact, they are like miniatures when compared with the Annapurna Himalayas. Just compare Machapurchare with Matterhorn. Or how Dhaulagiri overwhelms you even when seen from far. None of the other mountains will give you this feeling even when standing up close.

All the photos here, save the last one, was taken on the late afternoon of 8/12/99. The sky cleared and I rushed back to hotel, which has a good vantage point, to snap the photos.

The Manaslu Himal seen from Pokhara, although I am not too sure which of the peaks in the photos is Manaslu (8,163m), eighth highest peak in the world.
