EGYPT 98-Cairo-Muhammad Ali Mosque

From Aswan, we took an overnight train back to Cairo. Our first destination in Cairo was the Muhammad Ali Mosque.

Built in 1830, this mosque has become the emblem of Cairo. The mosque is modelled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. It is 52 meters high and has a dome 21 meters in diameter.

The interior of the mosque is illuminated by a multitude of concentrate crystal chandeliers hung on chains.
