CHINA 09-BEIJING-Day 01c-Forbidden City Front Courtyard (28/04/09)

The Beijing Forbidden City (now known as the Palace Museum) is the largest existing palace complex in the world. It can be broadly divided into three parts, the front courtyard, the main courtyard, and the living quarters of the imperial family.

The front courtyard, or "Taihe" courtyard is the area between the Wumen and the Taihe Men (Gate of Supreme Harmony. The inner Jinshui ("Golden Water") River flows across the courtyard like a winding jade belt. Five marble bridge span the river.
