However, the highlight of the visit to Appenzell must be the walk in the surrounding hills. Appenzell is one of the greenest region in Switzerland, and we were lucky to do the walk on a glorious sunny day. The mountains near Appenzell is the the Alpstein Alps.
We took the walk in the region south of the town,with great views of the Alpstein Alps. Dotting the rolling landscape are cows, houses and beautiful painted houses, some with attached barns.
