From Munich, we took a train to St Gallen and spent the night there. The next morning, we took a local train to the small town of Appenzell, which is 18km south of St Gallen. Appenzell lies in a picturesque, hilly landscape in the northeast of Switzerland.
The place has a strong culture identity and retains some of Switzerland's strongest folklore. The houses here are intricately painted with colorful murals distinctive to the region.

Early in the morning, after the church bell chimes, the women gathered in folk costumes, which include an elaborate coif with large wings made of a fabric called tulle.
