After a short walk around St Gallen town (I did not take any notable photos there), we took a train to Lucerne. Lucerne must be the most visited town in Switzerland, as it is definitely in any package tour of Switzerland. And the most popular photo of Lucerne must be the Chapel Bridge with Mount Pilatus in the background.

The Chapel Bridge is said to be the oldest woodbridge of Europe. The bridge burned down on 18th August 1993, a year after I first visited in 1992. It was reconstructed within a few months.

The Lion Monument commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, Mark Twain praised the sculpture of a mortally-wounded lion as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.

The Spreuerbrücke is constructed in 1408. It is the oldest covered bridge in Europe and features a series of medieval-style 17th Century plague paintings.

A fountain in the old town of Lucerne, a typical sight of Swiss old towns.
