EGYPY 98-Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

Photobucket
A village outside the Valley of the Kings. The peak dominating the photo is "Al-Qurn". It has a pyramid shaped appearance and is probably the reason why the pharoahs of the New Kingdom chose to be buried here, echoing the pyramids of the Old Kingdom. It is also provides a good vantage point for the guards of the necropolis.

The design of the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut was considered new and avant-garde in its time and is called Djeser Djeseru or "the most magnificent of the magnificent"by the ancient Egyptians.

The temple has a three layered terraces reaching 97 feet tall. Each level has a double colonnade of square piers. The terraces are connected by long ramps which were once surrounded by gardens.

In the left on the central terrace is the chapel.
