The Sound of Music is filmed mainly in locations in Salzburg and the surrounding areas. We visited some of these locations around Salzburg as well as the village of Mondsee, which is a bus ride away.
The St Peter's Cemetery, where the Von Trapp family hide behind the tombstones in the fleeing scene.
The Untersberg is about 16 km to south of Salzburg and within easy reach by bus. It is the location of the opening and fleeing scene of the movie.
